SwáSthya Yôga, which is a part of DeRose Method, is based on the Tantra and the Sámkhya ancient traditions, from the pre-classical period of Yôga. It uses knowledge and techniques that are more than 5000 years old. Its proposal is not therapeutic, and its practice is neither mystical nor spiritualist. Its lineage is naturalistic, technical, sensorial and non-repressive. Its orthodox Sanskrit designation is Dakshinacharatantrika-Niríshwarasámkhya Yôga.
The purpose of the initial stage of the method is to prepare the student for the evolutionary process that happens in the later stages, samádhi, or hyperconsciousness. The result of the initial preparation is strengthening of the biological structure, increase of vitality and increased awareness.
SwáSthya has three main characteristics: it is an extremely complete practice that has eight parts; it introduces to the students the general rules of execution; and finally the student executes the techniques (ásanas, mudrás, bandhas, etc.) which unfold as linked sequences or choreographies.
